A free funded trading account usually means the trader did not pay the normal evaluation fee personally. It does not mean the account has no rules, no conditions, or no possible later costs.

Access may come from a competition, a sponsored Challenge, a partner giveaway, a scholarship-style program, or a firm promotion. The account stage and contract matter more than the word free.

Check the funded stage, not just a free entry

Checked on 3 October 2026: we have not verified an unconditional offer that awards a funded-stage account at no cost from the public sources reviewed. FTMO's starting guide says its Free Trial cannot qualify a trader for an FTMO Account. The5ers advertises demo competitions, but its public listing does not by itself establish the complete account-stage and cost conditions of each prize.

Use this checklist for a specific award or sponsorship before accepting it. For no-cost practice and evaluation entry, see the separate challenge-access guide.

Document to obtainQuestion it must answer
Award confirmationDoes it name practice access, an evaluation voucher or the funded stage?
Fee schedule for that stageWho pays activation, data and recurring charges, if any?
Account agreementIs the trading simulated, who is the contracting party, and what conditions apply to rewards?
Eligibility and identity requirementsCan the named recipient use the award in their jurisdiction?
Current trading rulesWhich loss, execution, news, copying and automation restrictions apply?

For example, a voucher can remove an evaluation purchase price while leaving a later activation charge untouched. That is a hypothetical cost distinction, not a claim about any named firm's current fees. Record every mandatory cost separately before describing the complete route as free.

Can you get a funded trading account for free?

Sometimes, but the route is conditional and availability changes. A trader may receive a sponsored evaluation place or win access through a competition without paying the initial fee personally.

The provider may still require identity checks, rule compliance, a contractual review, or later platform and account charges. Confirm whether the offer gives an evaluation, a simulated funded account, or only practice access.

What does a free funded account usually include?

It usually includes access to a defined account stage under the provider's normal or promotional rules. It does not automatically include unrestricted trading or immediate withdrawals.

Common formats include:

Read the exact description. An evaluation voucher and a funded account are different products even if both are described as account access.

Are there costs after the first stage?

There can be. Later costs may include activation, platform, data, reset, withdrawal, currency conversion, or other service charges.

Not every provider uses these charges, and the amount can change. Review the current official fee schedule and checkout rather than relying on an old list.

Also consider trading costs such as spread, commission, swap, or exchange data. Those costs can affect the account even when the initial access price is zero.

What rules apply to a sponsored account?

The rules stated in the offer and the provider's current contract apply. Sponsorship does not remove drawdown, consistency, holding, news, platform, or conduct restrictions.

Before using the account, record:

Save the version of the terms you accepted. A social media caption is not a substitute for the contract.

Can an EA be used on a free funded trading account?

Only when the provider allows the EA and its trading behaviour under the relevant account rules. The way the account was obtained does not create a separate automation exemption.

An EA should be checked for the exact drawdown calculation, platform, symbol specifications, contract size, daily reset, and combined exposure. Third-party systems may also create duplicated-strategy concerns at some firms.

The prop firm EA rules guide explains the questions to verify. No automated system can assure an account outcome.

How can you tell whether the offer is legitimate?

Verify the operator, official domain, terms, support contact, and account stage. A legitimate offer should explain what is awarded and what the recipient must still do.

Claims that trading losses cannot occur or that payment is certain should be treated as warning signs.

Is a free funded account better than a paid evaluation?

Not automatically. A no-cost entry can be useful, but the paid route may offer clearer rules, better support, or a product that fits the trading method more closely.

Compare the complete account lifecycle:

  1. entry stage;
  2. evaluation rules;
  3. progression conditions;
  4. funded-stage restrictions;
  5. platform and instrument fit;
  6. all current costs;
  7. payout and KYC terms;
  8. support and dispute process.

The best choice is the route whose rules the trader understands and can operate within, not simply the one with the lowest initial price.

How should you use a free account for practice?

Use it to test a written trading process under the same constraints you intend to face later. Do not increase risk merely because the entry had no charge.

Track position sizing, open equity, daily stop conditions, execution differences, losing streaks, and rule mistakes. If an automated strategy produces too few trades to assess, extend the observation rather than drawing a strong conclusion from a small sample.

JPTC's research methodology describes why platform-native validation and unseen periods matter before software is released.

Where can you compare funded account routes?

Start with a structured comparison, then verify every shortlisted provider on its official site. Current rules and contracts should decide the choice.

Use the JPTC prop firm overview as a practical starting point, then review the account's official terms before entering a competition, accepting a sponsored place, or buying an evaluation.
